Monitoring consumption in large pharmaceutical companies with complex, continuous production processes requires advanced technological solutions and a highly flexible approach. Kerberos, in partnership with EGO, successfully met this challenge at one of Italy’s leading producers of anticancer drugs, a company with over a thousand employees and among the highest safety and quality standards in the sector.
The complexity of the project was heightened by the impossibility of halting production, not even during holidays. Kerberos carefully planned each phase in close collaboration with the client, complying with strict internal procedures and frequent inspections by national and international regulatory bodies. The installation of monitoring systems was carried out in several phases, adapting to production needs and ensuring maximum safety.
Approximately 80 measurement points were installed, including chillers, flow meters, heat meters, compressed air, over 60 electrical measurement points, a POD, and four gas measurement points. Where electricity was unavailable, some points will be powered by photovoltaic panels. Monitoring also extends to an internal cogeneration unit, allowing comprehensive control over the plant’s main energy vectors.
To avoid interrupting production, Kerberos used clamp-on devices for pipe measurement and current transformers for electrical monitoring. Where necessary, installation was scheduled during rare downtimes, coordinated with the client’s maintenance team. This flexibility enabled seamless integration of the monitoring system without impacting productivity, while maintaining high safety standards.
The intervention enabled a measured thermal energy recovery of 62%, with an estimated annual saving of around €120,000. Additionally, thanks to the data collected and analysis by the EGO group, the company was able to increase the number of White Certificates obtained, benefiting from further incentives for energy efficiency.
Kerberos stands out for its ability to offer true “turnkey” solutions, managing every operational and organizational aspect. An example of this attention is the development of a custom solution for monitoring a gas cabin without electricity supply, using a telescopic pole powered by solar panels. This proactive approach allows even the most complex problems to be solved quickly and effectively.
The success story at the pharmaceutical giant demonstrates how Kerberos’ technology and expertise can meet the most demanding industry requirements, ensuring energy efficiency, production continuity, and measurable economic returns.
